Ahmed Khwaja, MASc, PEng, PMP
Principal, Biomedical Engineer
Ahmed Khwaja is a Principal of BCEP Limited. His credentials include Professional Engineer (PEng), Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Master's of Applied Science degree in Biomedical Engineering. Ahmed has over eight years of experience in leading projects and consulting on the biomedical equipment provincially, nationally and internationally.

During his Master's thesis he developed a Sonotubometry System and underwent the regulatory process to implement the system in a clinical environment. He turned initial concept into a final product capable of human diagnosis.

Ahmed joined the Institute for Biodiagnostics, NRC in 2006, on a 2 year contract term. He provided turnkey project support during the construction of Biomedical MRI Research Lab, integrated various functional/operational processes in the hospital system, led multisite IT planning for real time PACS data communication and processing at a remote site and developed ergonomic user centered systems for an innovative research environment.

During his career at CCI Health, he consulted on the medical equipment in three hospitals including St. Joseph's Health Centre, Hamilton, Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, NS and a teaching hospital in Saudi Arabia. Ahmed also consulted on developing an in-house equipment planning software.

Ahmed founded BCEP Limited in 2010 and since then he has been involved in providing result focussed solutions to clients. He keep abreast of latest issues and development in the industry through participation in discussion forums and society meetings. His vision and skills for evaluating the Relevant Technology has led many projects to success via open communication and commitment, and has successfully integrated projects in the facility operations.

Ken George, MSEE, PEng, CCE
Principal, Clinical Engineering Consultant
Ken George is a Clinical Engineering Consultant at BCEP Limited. His credentials include Professional Engineer (PEng), Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) and a Master's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Ken has over 30 years of experience in leading and initiating healthcare technology provincially, nationally and internationally.

During his involvement with the Nova Scotia Association of Health Organizations, Ken initiated various services including developing in-house computer systems as well as a province-wide, shared service in Clinical Engineering, Medical Gas Inspection Services, Electrical Certification of Patient Care Areas and Radiology Equipment service serving all hospitals except the Victoria General Hospital (now QE II).

Ken joined TecKnowledge Healthcare Systems Ltd. in 1997 to lead a team to develop and rollout the Nova Scotia Telehealth Network (NSTHN). Under his supervision Telemedicine and Teleradiology systems were designed, configured and delivered to all hospitals in Nova Scotia on schedule and on budget. As well as locally, Ken also consulted in Telehealth with hospitals in Ontario, Alberta and St. Kitts leading development of solutions for Teleradiology and Homecare.

During his last career transition as a Manager of Biomedical Engineering department at the IWK Health Centre, he evaluated the department and brought efficiencies in the operations and Medical Equipment Preventive Maintenance. He chaired or participated in many hospital wide activities, including Capital Equipment Committee, Hazards & Alerts Committee, Infusion Pump Committee, PICU Monitoring Committee, Fetal Monitoring Committee, Anesthesia Information Management System Replacement Committee, MOM committees for Operations & Support and IT. He also implemented a new asset information management system for the Biomedical Engineering Department. At the request of the Prince Edward Island government, Ken with NSAHO evaluated Biomedical Services on the island and recommended corrective actions to maximize efficiencies.

Consultants
As determined by the project scope, we engage sub-consultants with specialities in Dentistry, Facilities Management, Home Care, Laboratory, Medical Physics, Operating Room, Pharmacy, Procurement, Tertiary Care and Inpatient Units, Facilities Planning and various other concentrations in healthcare. During a call-up we discuss the project scope and requirements, and engage the sub-consultants for achieving project success and risk mitigation.
 
 

Construction
We partner with a local construction firm to deliver our unique TurnConceptKey solution. Our partnership will provide a single point of contact for communication, responsibility and control throughout the project. We engage trades with experience working in the hospital environment. This partnership will enable us to deliver a solution on time, budget, client focussed and within scope.
 
 

Interior Design
We have access to the Interior Designers to assist planning for ergonomic and patient friendly space. As defined in the project scope, CAD drawings with 3D renderings will be provided. 3D renderings allow visualizing the space prior to building the facility, allowing cost effective changes in the project for patient comfort and workflow efficiency.
